Day 8 - Charlie's Version

Hey Everyone, We just got back to Kochi from our trekking phase.
It was a bit amazing and much better than i thought it was going to be. We saw wild elephants, monkeys and befriended some goats. I was really sad because i missed the last day of trekking with 5 other people because we got a HORRIBLE stomach bug, but it wasnt the end of the world. I think world challenge were going to contact you about our project phase changing and it has. Which sucks not so much because its in a different place but because it means more tents :(
I would love to rant and post a much longer post but i have a queue of 6 people behind me all waiting for a chance on this computer.
I love you all lots and i'll fill in the details when i return :)
Byeee for now xxxxxxx

Day 3 - Charlie's version

Hey guys! Guess what?!
We're in India!
That's quite exciting isn't it?
The travelling over was a bit crazy, i didnt sleep at all on the long flight so that was a bit rubbish. Then the folks at Mumbai airport didn't like us very much and hustled and bustled us everywhere because we were such a big group, but we survived :) So all is happy and good.
The hostel where we stayed last night was nice and cool because of fans and things and we went to a really lovely restaurant for dinner yesterday and had proper authentic Indian for the first time which was lovely.
Today we went and met our trekking guides and things. Turns out the trek is longer than we thought it was going to be (now 5 days). But it sounds really lovely and apparently every group who've done this route this year have seen wild elephants!
We also went to a nice local market and i got some new jewellery and stuff which is a bit good.
Tonight we're staying in the same hostel for one more night of relative luxury, before getting up at 5 tomorrow morning to head to the start of out trek.
We'll be off the radar while we're there so i wont write again for a bit.
Love you guys xx

Its soooo pretty here.

Looking forward to treking more than i thought i would.. it looks a bit wonderful with the hills..

Looks like we'll get to use day packs and not our HUGE rucksacks.. so YAY to that!!!!!!!!

Missing family a little. But am happy.

Love the food. (Y) (Y)

HAHA the guy who was trying make me buy the necklace when i didnt have enough money and we were leaving!! OMG he was sooo persistent! But i shock him off.

Cant wait to have more storys to tell family and friends!!

Day 3

We're currently staying at a small hostel called Santa Cruz in Fort Kochin. We checked in yesterday and the staff have been very friendly so far, recommending restaurants and local attractions. Flight over was quite plush; I watched most of Watchmen before realising that I would probably prefer something a bit more lighthearted and switching to He's Just Not That Into You. There was quite a bit of turbulence which was really worrying for some people; Miss Sussex was terrified but some lucky beans managed to sleep through the whole thing.
I realised today that I had no long trousers for trekking, but I managed to buy some for 300Rs. at a local market. Everything is REALLY cheap here, it's amazing.
So far, we're doing okay. Nobody's overly angry or unwell (touch wood), the food has been good, the locals are friendly and we're not running out of clean clothes. Now we just have to keep it that way! :)

Post-freakout thoughts

I'm mostly excited now.
Earlier i was scared because I couldnt get into my house and therefore could not pack. But now i'm here and trying to put off packing, so all is good (y).
Mainly i'm worried about keeping patient with people while we're there, but i think i'm ok at it, ish. I really don't think everything is going to fit in my bag. Then there's actually carrying the bag while trekking. eww.
I'm also going to really miss the family and the doggles.
But all in all it's going to be fab. I just have to keep reminding myself that.

Thoughts

One Step At A Time.

Will Miss Family, DOG, Bed, Family, Aftershow Party For King Lear :(, House, Mentalist (cause I'm that materialistic that I will miss TV shows), Perri's Birthday. ETCETC

I love all who will miss me :)

Thoughts before we go.

I'm really worried about going now. It's quite exciting but I'm really anxious about packing the right things and knowing what's best to take when it comes to clothes etc. I'm also kinda paranoid I'll get lost - that tends to happen in foreign countries :P - and that tensions will run high when we're out there.

Happy thoughts

OH MY WORD.
I'm feeling mostly good now, i just looked at some pictures of where we're going and it made me really excited. It looks beautiful!
Although i'm still utterly terrified. I'm mostly scared of not being able to cope with things, of falling out with people who i usually love to pieces, and of generally not having a good time.
HOWEVER! i've been thinking more and more about how this is unlikely!
Because:
  • i am going to throw myself into every opportunity and push myself and laugh it all off if it all goes wrong.
  • i love my friends and we're just going to have the best time together, we always have so much fun, and i get to experience it with some of the best people i know.
  • i'll be in india! if all else fails, i am somewhere new and amazing, and exploring a place like that must make everything alright, it just has to.
It's going to be amazing. Here's to new experiences!
